The Erie County Poet Laureate Initiative proudly announces Erie Writes, an event that will feature Erie County High School students as he’ll read for his second and final time during his final term of office.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, April 28 in the Hirt Auditorium at the Blasco Library, and is free and open to the public.

As part of his mission as Poet Laureate, Hayes expanded outreach to Erie-area high school students to increase the role and presence of poetry in the lives of students in Erie County.

In keeping with that mission, he invited all high school students in the region to submit up to three of their best poems and will select up to two students from each school to appear on stage with him.

Each participating student will receive $100 and will see their work anthologized in a collection of published poems to celebrate the event.

Also making news on this special night, the search for the next Erie County Poet Laureate begins anew.
