February, 13, 2014-_The Conneaut Fire Department responded to a house fire at 971 Furnace Road at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday in Conneaut. Fire crews found flames showing from the single-floor frame house when they arrived at the scene.
Conneaut Police Det. Mike Sullivan and a passerby helped Ken Smith get away from the burning building. Smith refused medical care or ambulance transport to a hospital.
Ashtabula Township, Monroe Township and Springfield Township Fire of Pennsylvania answered the mutual aid call.
“We called for mutual aid because of the lack of fire hydrants in the area,” Conneaut Fire Chief Steve Lee said.
Capt. Tim Zee cut his finger at the scene according to Chief Lee.
The State Fire Marshall was at the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. No cause has been determined. Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $50,000.
