HOPE Group Aims to Stop Heroin Epidemic

- January 23, 2014 - Recent heroin overdoses in Erie County have friends, family and recovering addicts coming together to stop the epidemic.

There are more than 5,000 “LIKES” on the Heroin Overdose Prevention in Erie Facebook page.

Taylor Miller started the group, saying she's lost too many to the disease of addiction.

She’s a recovering addict trying to help others who are struggling with addiction.

The inspiration for the page came from the untimely death of her friend to a heroin overdose.

Adam Rowley, 27, is the reason she's decided to take a stand and help others.

The Facebook page is filling up fast with personal stories, which Miller is hoping will help those directly and indirectly affected by heroin.

According to coroner Lyell Cook, numbers show drug deaths are on the rise.

There were 57 drug deaths registered in the first 11 months of 2013, 54 drug deaths in all of 2012, 39 in 2011 and 18 in 2010.
