September 29, 2013 - According to Crawford County coroner Scott Schell, human remains have been found in a barrel in a wooded area off of Brown Hill Road in Rockdale Township.

Pennsylvania State Police, PSP, believe the remains could be those of 55 year old Gerald VanDyke, who was last seen on September 14, and was reported missing on September 15th.

VanDyke is believed to be a homicide victim.

Richard Houy, 68, of Rockdale Township is charged with criminal homicide in connection with VanDyke's death.

Houy is the father of Vandyke's girlfriend, Tina Skelton.

According to police reports, Houy told police he invited VanDyke to his home, saying he needed his help in fixing his tractor.

Houy said he punched VanDyke, causing him to fall and hit his head, and then took VanDyke's body to Miller Station Road at the French Creek access and left it there.

PSP, with help from the Crawford County scuba team and other emergency crews searched French Creek, state game lands, and other areas on Thursday and Friday of last week, before discovering the remains.

At this time, Schell said it is too soon to officially say if the remains that have been found are those of VandDyke.

An autopsy is scheduled for 11am Monday in Erie County.
