Hundreds Competed For 7th Annual Erie Walks! Trophy

- Hundreds participate in the competition, but only one organization will receive the coveted title of Erie Walks! champion. This year’s winning organization will be announced during a trophy ceremony to be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Perry Square Gazebo.

Erie Walks! is a fun-filled 8-week walking competition between downtown Erie employers that combines physical activity with friendly competition, peer support and education. Participants are encouraged to develop the habit of walking or being active at least 30 minutes each day.

The County of Erie, Downtown YMCA, Gannon University, St. Vincent, Highmark, Sheraton Erie, EMTA and GECAC have joined together with 449 participants, logging a total of 18,613 days walked!

According to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, adults should engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, every week. Erie Walks! is a fun and energizing way to meet these health goals, while also striving to create healthier worksites, improve employees’ health and productivity, and reduce medical care expenses.
