A large accumulation of ice in Elk Creek is raising concerns for many. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission report the ice jams are from the old bridge in Girard upstream through the Legion Park and on for a mile. These ice jams have obstructed the normal flow of Elk Creek and are posing as a risk to anyone in the area if the ice suddenly breaks free. As the weight of the water builds up behind the ice it could cause large pieces to break off sending the ice and large amounts of water downstream quickly. The Fish and Boat Commission reports anyone who is caught in a potentially dangerous rush of water and ice could be injured or even killed.
