Freezing temperatures are sweeping the United States. The mercury continues to plummet in Erie County as a deep freeze is underway.

The freezing temperatures and inclement weather prompted several area school districts to close.
But dozens of people were still out in the elements today.
With such bitter cold conditions, area doctors want you to be prepared.

Doctor Ross Peterson at Saint Vincent Hospital urges you to bundle up, layer your clothing and cover your face with a scarf.
He says cold temperatures like this can cause more than just frost bite.
Doctors say frost bite can occur in just under 5 minutes. So if you don't need to go out, stay home!
