Kevin Hogan, a sixth grade student at Erie's JoAnna Connell School, has been named a Pennsylvania National Geographic Bee semifinalist by the National Geographic Society.

Hogan, the son of Laurie Hogan and Denise Quadri, will compete in the 2014 Pennsylvania National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. The Bee will be held at The State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg on April 4.

Bees were held in schools with fourth through eighth grade students throughout the Commonwealth to determine each school's winner. School-level winners then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. Only 100 students across Pennsylvania were invited to compete at the state level.

The state winner will earn a trip to Washington, D.C., where he/she will represent Pennsylvania in the national finals held in May at the National Geographic Society headquarters. The finals will be moderated by Soledad O'Brien and air on the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD.
