June 19, 2014 - It's going to cost you a little more this year to grill those burgers and hot dogs, meat prices are on the rise. Mike Weber is president of Smith Provision Company and says he's seen a steady increase in beef and pork prices.
Part of the problem is that many farmers who raise beef cattle are getting out of the business, so there's not as many heads of cattle. And, pork prices are skyrocketing in part because of a virus that’s claiming 10 percent of piglets. Weber says because of that, meat prices are on the rise.
Weber says he sees no signs of those prices coming down anytime soon.
