JULY 2, 2014 - A multimillion dollar makeover is underway at an area high school. Crews are hard at work renovating McDowell High School. The $10 million dollar began back in mid June. Since then, the school has been gutted.

Lockers have been removed to make way for more storage friendly models. The hallways will get new carpet and fresh coats of paint. The same goes for classrooms and science labs.

Safety and security is also a top priority.  New doors have been installed along with a state of the art security system. In addition, the walkway between the high school and intermediate school is being upgraded for a smoother commute between schools.

The project is funded through a bond. It is expected to be completed by August 22. Phase two of the project will begin next year and that will total at $10 million.
