Current work was expected to be complete last year, but the sequestration held up some funding to complete the project.
Now, 22 trucks come in from out of town nightly to finish re-surfacing the 4,500 feet of the middle part of the runway.
The construction is expected to wrap up completely by the end of September.
Chris Rodgers, the Executive Director of the Erie International Airport, says he's thankful for neighbors cooperating during the overnight construction.
The last time the airport runway was re-surfaced was 20 years ago.
Rodgers says this won't have to be done for another 20.
