“Even though spring is officially upon us, demand for home heating fuels remains high as communities across the commonwealth and country continue to endure below average temperatures,” stated Rep. Thompson. “I am pleased that Congress took immediate action on this emergency legislation that will get fuel to those who need it most.”
On February 5, 2014, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) issued temporary emergency declarations to allow tank truck operators delivering propane and other home heating fuels to drive for longer hours to speed up deliveries to affected states. The HHEATT Act provides a guaranteed extension of USDOT’s short-term emergency declarations until May 31, 2014.
On February 10, 2014, Rep. Thompson along with 72 bipartisan colleagues sent a letter to the President, urging the Administration to work with Congress on a series of policy initiatives to deal with the growing propane crisis.
H.R. 4076 passed the House, with unanimous support, on March 4, 2014, and the Senate, with unanimous support, on March 13, 2014.
