July 25, 2014 - Today is a historic day for the Presque Isle Lighthouse as it begins a public-private partnership that will turn the landmark from a private residence into a museum.

The lighthouse has been used as a private residence for the last 141 years, but that will soon change.

DCNR officials announced a 35 year lease with the newly created Presque Isle Light Station organization to renovate and turn the lighthouse into a public museum.

The restoration is expected to come in between $1.1 million and $1.5 million.

The lighthouse will be open this weekend, July 26th and 27th from 9pm until 4pm.
