June 25, 2014 - The City of Erie continues to take steps to form an authority to help the city secure a CRIZ designation from the state.

A public hearing is set for 8pm tonight during the City Council meeting in Bagnoni Chambers at City Hall.

The hearing is for the creation of a municipal authority to oversee and submit a future application for the City Revitalization Improvement Zone designation.

This authority will put the city in a better position to be awarded the CRIZ bid from the state.

State officials say Erie wasn't chosen in the first round because the city applied through the sewer authority and not an authority acting on it’s own.

The designation would affect property along the bayfront, including land owned by Scott Enterprises who wants to create Harborplace, a multi-million dollar project with mixed retail and residential space.
