Public Speaks Out at EMTA Meeting

July 15, 2014 - The public is back again at the Intermodal speaking out against proposed EMTA fee hikes and other concerns.

This time around, many of the bus riders say they are supportive of the changes.

New changes mean you may need some extra change to foot the bill for bus fare.

The proposed EMTA fee hike would be 15 cents more, taking the normal rate from 1.10 to 1.25.

In addition, a 13.6 percent increase across all tickets and passes is scheduled to begin in October.

A vast majority of the people at the meeting didn't oppose the rates.

In fact, they say they support their extra dollars going toward improvements within the bus system.

EMTA officials said the potential increase is caused by the fact that fees haven't increased since 1997 and money is being lost, our rates are cheaper than most services in the commonwealth and the Act 89 Transportation Bill.

Another meeting is scheduled July 29th at Edinboro Council Chambers
