April 2, 2014 - Lack of state funding could close the local branch of the state civil service office, but Erie City Council members are speaking out against closing the office.

Erie City Councilman Bob Merski Jr. sponsored a resolution urging state officials to come up with the appropriate funds to keep the Pennsylvania Civil Services Erie Exam Center open.

Merski says it's not feasible for those who need to take a civil service test to have to drive to the office in Pittsburgh.

The closure, however, could be effective June 30th of this year.

State officials, including Representative Pat Harkins, have also come out against the decision to close the office.

The resolution unanimously passed at council.
