The Crawford Central School Board will decide on February 24th whether or not the district will have a resource officer.
The superintendent and Meadville's Assistant Police Chief are in favor of having a resource officer.
A sixty thousand dollar grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education's office for safe schools could potentially mean the Meadville Area High School and Middle School would have a resource officer.
The funding would cover salary, benefits and training costs.
Meadville's assistant police chief would like to see an officer in the school saying the department responds to about 50 calls there a year.
He says this is a proactive approach rather than reactive.
