Like many of my friends and colleagues in the Pittsburgh region, I was saddened after hearing the news this morning about multiple stabbings at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville.

Fortunately, on a day like this, many people stepped up and became heroes to end the violence and save lives.

Reports give credit to school staff, teachers, and students, who quickly acted. Law enforcement jumped into action too.

Meanwhile, medical teams of emergency medicine specialists, surgeons, nurses, and other health care professionals prepared at many hospitals and trauma centers across the Pittsburgh area to treat the victims.

On behalf of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, my heart goes out to the victims and their families.

We wish them a speedy recovery. I also applaud those who acted today to save lives – school staff and teachers, students, law enforcement, and medical teams.

Your response deserves credit for saving lives today.
