Construction of the first roundabout in PennDOT District 1 is expected to begin Monday, April 14, at the intersection of Route 19 and Route 97 in Waterford Township, Erie County.

The project is designed to improve safety and efficiency for motorists using the intersection, located south of Waterford Borough.

Work will involve construction of a single-lane roundabout, along with curbs and curb ramps and updated drainage, guiderail, delineation, signing and pavement markings.

The contractor is J.C. Lee Construction & Supply Co. of Petrolia, Pa. The contract cost is $1,977,881.58, which will be paid entirely with federal funds.

Detours are not anticipated. Traffic will be accommodated by construction of temporary roadways.

Traffic congestion is likely during construction and drivers should expect delays.

Construction is expected to be completed in September.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
