As part of his latest effort to help ensure our nation’s veterans receive the service and help they have earned, Sen. Toomey is supporting a bipartisan measure to streamline the cumbersome application process a veteran is required to navigate when filing a benefits claim.
Among its provisions, the 21st Century Veterans Benefits Delivery Act will establish new tools to hold VA regional offices accountable for their performance and identify measures to address inadequate performance.
“As a member of the Senate VA Backlog Working Group I look forward to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to help resolve this critical and longstanding issue.” said Sen. Toomey.
“While the VA has made some progress in the past year, 55 percent of claims nationwide remain backlogged. Backlog levels in the VA’s Philadelphia and Pittsburgh offices exceed 60 percent.
I am pleased to join Sen. Casey and Sen. Heller in cosponsoring legislation that will address this serious problem and ultimately eliminate the backlog.”
The bipartisan VA Backlog Working Group brings together lawmakers, veterans, Veterans Service Organizations, and others to identify solutions to the claims backlog.
The 21st Century Veterans Benefits Delivery Act is supported by the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).
