July 22, 2014 - One local swimmer is making waves as he attempts to make history. Fewer than twenty people have completed this lake swim, now Elliot Spaeder is trying to add his name to the list.

Spaeder has been training since September to take on the more than 24.3 mile swim of Lake Erie.

Spaeder began the swim this morning just after 7 a.m., he's trying to swim from Long Point, Canada to Freeport Beach in North East.

Spaeder says he raised more than $10,000 dollars for the downtown YMCA.

He completed the first half of the swim, 12 miles, in just over five hours.

Norman Stark, 17, will take on the lake later this week, he plans to swim on Saturday.
