The Erie School Board voted back in April to issue a notice of non-renewal to Erie Rise Leadership Academy and now staff and parents are speaking out to keep their students' school open.

The notice of non-renewal could potentially lead to closer of the charter school. School board officials reported that they found sufficient reason to consider the non-renewal. The board voted unanimously to issues the notice of non-renewal after recommendation from the Erie School Solicitor and an audit by the auditor general.

Erie School District officials say the charter school reportedly broke several laws including the charter law, state laws, federal laws and the Sunshine Act.

Greg Myers, the founder of the charter school, says he believes this comes down to a money issue and plans to prove that the school is a positive asset to the community.

The board will have 30 days after tonight's meeting to hear more from the public and then they will have to make a decision.
