Gallina first established his scholarship in September of 1994, but Gannon will match his latest gift under the provisions of the Tom Power “Power” Scholarship Challenge.
Gallina was born and raised in Bradford, Pa. and attended Gannon University in the 1960’s. He went onto serve as a Pastor at many Erie diocesan parishes including St. Boniface, St George and St. Bernard parish in his hometown before retiring.
He established the scholarship in honor of his parents who shared their philosophy about the value of giving with their children, “’Help now; give as you live,’ that’s what they would tell us,” said Gallina.
The Leo J., Jessie S. and the Rev. Leo J. Gallina Endowed “Power” Scholarship is among the almost 200 scholarships at Gannon endowed by corporations, foundations, families and individuals. Last year, Gannon University awarded nearly $914,000 in scholarships to more than 400 deserving students from diverse locations, backgrounds and financial circumstances. More than 90 percent of undergraduate students received a form of Gannon grant or scholarship.
Endowed gifts to Gannon can also help fund faculty positions, professorships, chairmanships, faculty excellence and study abroad programs at the University.
