The Executive Vice President of the Barber National Institute is weighing in on the study.
According to the study by Special Olympics and conducted by Gallup and the University of Massachusetts at Boston, only 44% of intellectually disabled adults are in the labor force, while 34% are actually working.
And 83% of non-disabled working age adults are in the work force.
Dr. Maureen Barber-Carey says they offer supported employment services and also job coaches.
The Barber National Institute is working to place persons with intellectual disabilities -- and have recently seen a surge in Erie with 12 intellectually disabled adults being placed in jobs during the last five weeks.
