MAY 16, 2013- The Center for Disease Control reports 11% of children has been diagnosed with ADHD....

And 1 in 5 high school boys suffer from the disorder.

Amid the startling statistics and abuse rates with popular ADHD medication Adderall, Char Bowser says the stimulant changed her son Zak's life for the better...

When Zak was just 6 and half years old char noticed something wasn't right.....

After several doctors' visits, Zak was eventually diagnosed with ADHD, OCD and PTSD...

Wendy McCullough, a Forensic director at Stairways Behavioral Health says Adderall is necessary in the following instances.

Char says initially she refused medication for her son and sought therapy, but when Zak's grades and behavior became out of hand... Adderall became the last resort.

Doctor Susan Moore is a Pediatrician at Children's Health Care, a division of Saint VincentHealthCenter.... She did not treat Zak for his ADHD, but she says Adderall can be extremely effective.

Moore says when Adderall is used properly; the results can be astounding...

Bowser says the medication made all the difference.  Zak's grades went from D's and F's to A's and his social skills increased...
