The Erie stop on the event’s Kaleidoscope Tour maxed out at 10,000 participants this week, reaching capacity in less than one month. According to The Color Run’s official website, the Erie event is one of the fastest to sell out in an extensive 2014 tour that features 98 races and counting.
As a result of the event’s local popularity, The Color Run organizers will be providing a limited number of race entries to local partnering nonprofits, including United Way of Erie County.
The entries will be utilized as a fundraiser by the partnering nonprofits at a date to be announced.
The Erie event, which is scheduled to start in front of the courthouse on 6th Street and conclude with a colorful finish-line festival in Perry Square, will serve as a kick-off event for Celebrate Erie.
More than a million people have participated in The Color Run, which boasts a presence on almost every continent on Earth. The Color Run is an untimed 5K race in which thousands of participants start the race wearing white and are doused from head to toe in different colors along the event course.
United Way of Erie County, celebrating its 100th anniversary, is currently recruiting volunteers for the event. Those interested in getting involved should call 814-456-2937.
