Three Die in Harborcreek Fire
February 9, 2014 - A man and two young children are dead after a fire destroyed their home in Harborcreek. Deputy Coroner Korac Timon reports, John Amacher, 68, and his 2 grandsons were inside at the time and died as a result of the fire. Police report the young boys were Jacob Waldinger, 4, and Aidan Waldinger, 3. Calls came in reporting a fire around 1:30 AM Sunday morning. Firefighters were called to the scene at
690 Walbridge Road and were met with heavy flames. Officials were at the scene within 3 minutes of the call. Neighbors say they believe 2 other people lived at the home but were not inside at the time of the fire. The neighbors say they saw the flames engulfing the house and tried to help. An RV in the driveway was also damaged and a neighbor’s house had minimal damage to the siding. Crews from Fairfield, Harborcreek, Lawrence Park, Wesleyville, Belle Valley, Brookside, Kuhl Hose, and North East were on the scene. Officials said they had to work to clear snow covered fire hydrants in the area just to get them open. Fire officials say this fire is devastating. The Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
