June 26, 2014 - The investigation continues into how the ladder on a fire truck malfunctioned, injuring three firefighters.

Two Belle Valley firefighters and one from Wattsburg were injured last night when the bucket they were in plunged several feet.

But how could the malfunction happen on a four year old truck?

It happened around seven o'clock Wednesday night outside the Wattsburg Fire Hall on Route 8.

Three men were in the bucket on a Belle Valley Fire Department rig installing new equipment on a radio tower.

Officials said they were up about seventy feet when the ladder started coming down in what was described as a rapid descent.

The three people inside were taken to the hospital. One has since been released while the other two remain hospitalized with what are said to be non-life threatening injuries.

The rig that malfunctioned was purchased for $1.2 million in 2010.

The truck came from Sutphen out of Columbus, Ohio.

The CEO of Sutphen would not comment on camera, nor did the company release a statement on the incident.

It is believed the pulley cable snapped while they were up in the bucket.
