Two Fires At Vacant Warehouse

Erie firefighters spent several hours today doing battle with 2 separate fires in a vacant warehouse. The firefighters were met with thick smoke when they rolled up the building at East 16th and French streets.

The first report was for a fire in the south side of the building, but a short time later they noticed smoke coming from the east side of the building where a separate fire was burning..

Senior Deputy Fire Chief Mike Fahey said this about the fires “Theres no utilities in there, this has been vacant for years, we had several fires in here over the past year or so, mainly people getting inside and starting them". Fayhe says it's dangerous to send firefighters inside the building because of the deteriorating condition of the building
