Vigil Held in Conneaut for Lainie Powell

CONNEAUT February 13, 2014-_More than 200 people braved the frigid weather to show their support for the Lanie Jae Powell family during a candlelight vigil Wednesday night at Conneaut Savings Bank in Conneaut. This the location of the “Lights of Love” tree.
Melanie “Lanie” Jae Powell, 4, died from severe head injuries at a Cleveland hospital. The injuries occurred while Lanie was in the care of Joshua Million, the former live-in boyfriend of Macie Powell, Lanie’s mother.
Friends, family and concerned citizens held candles as speakers Rev. Tim Kraus and funeral director John Raisian talked about the healing process and the love Conneaut has for its people.
Police officers from Conneaut and North Kingsville also held candles during the vigil. Riley Whittaker, 6, Anna Whittaker, 8 and Brenda Whittaker, 9, all of North Kingsville, were there to show support for their friend Lanie Jae Powell. They were playmates.
“The community has been wonderful,”Crystal Emus, Lanie Jae Powell’s aunt, said. “We are just makin it day-by-day.”
“The community support is overwhelming,” Emus said. “ It makes me proud to be from Conneaut.”
“ I appreciate it a lot, Macie Powell, Lanie’s mother, said.
Joshua Million, of Conneaut, is in jail on child endangering charges police sources say he will be facing more serious charges after the investigation into Lanie’s death is completed.
