July 14, 2014 - The Erie County Health Department has discovered the first positive case of West Nile Virus this season. A mosquito pool from Harborcreek contained the virus. It was recovered on July 2.

Health Department officials say they are setting more traps to protect the public and as the season progresses spraying may occur. Despite finding the virus, officials say this is good news because in years past mosquitoes with West Nile were reported much earlier in the summer.

Officials urge you to wear bug spray containing deet to protect yourself and long-sleeve light colored clothing.
