World Cup Fever in Erie
JULY 1, 2014-- It was not the turn out fans were hoping for but many people cheering on USA in the World Cup say they are proud of this year's team. Tuesday's game versus Belgium was an emotional one for viewers, who were on the edge of their seats watching in Erie. The underdog team persevered through the group, dubbed the group of death, to move on. They put up a good fight against Belgium in the round of 16 on Tuesday. The success has had local supporters rallying, wearing patriotic gear, tuning in to every game and believing in the USA. It may come as a surprise to many Americans that the world cup has generated more social media attention than any other event around the world but the success of this year’s team has had people continuing to believe. Even though the U.S. team is now out of the World Cup, fans say this year’s event brought some much needed attention to the sport.
