The Young People's Chorus of Erie, an outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is holding open rehearsals to find new choristers to join the choral music program open to young people age 7 - 18. YPC Erie was founded at Penn State Behrend in 2009 by local businessman Howard Lincoln and the former director of choral ensembles at Penn State Behrend. Over the past five years the chorus has performed for Governor Tom Corbett and President George W. Bush and has sung in amazing venues such as Carnegie Hall, Chautauqua Institution, the U.S. Capitol, Pennsylvania State Capitol and the Warner Theatre. The chorus also performs for various community events and will host a holiday concert on Friday, December 12 at Our Lady of Peace Church.

YPC Erie is comprised of four choirs including a young women's chorus, a young men's ensemble, an advanced treble choir and a training choir for children. Choristers learn music instruction, literacy and comprehension in the program. The Young People's Chorus of Erie is under the direction of artistic director, Dr. Gabrielle Dietrich.

Open rehearsals are Monday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 10 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel on the campus of Penn State Behrend for interested singers age 13 - 18. Open rehearsal for children age 7 - 12 will be held on Thursday, September 11 from 4:30 -6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant at 250 West Seventh Street. At the open rehearsals the children will participate in rehearsal and perform a short song for the artistic director. Preparation and previous singing experience is not necessary.
