Vernon Twp Fire Department suspends service

A dispute between the fire chief and board of directors led to the suspension of

MEADVILLE Pa. - The fire chief at Vernon Township Fire Department has suspended service because of an ongoing dispute with the fire department's board of directors.

Chief John Yount told the 9-1-1 center to take all of the fire trucks out of service until further notice.

Yount claims the department is not getting support from the Board of directors and added quote

"The board is not making the best decisions relating to the fire department and we decided to close the truck room until the board steps down or new people come, one of the two."

Board President Bill Reichel says he believes the dispute will be settled soon and in the meantime wants residents to be assured that even though Vernon Township Fire Department is not answering calls, Vernon Central Fire Department is covering for that department until the dispute can be worked out
