Made In America: Port Erie Plastics

- This week's Made In America takes us to Harborcreek, to Port Erie Plastics where custom injection molding, mold making and other plastics processing services have kept this company going strong for 60 plus years.
And one important fact that the company prides itself on is their products are made in America. Made right here.

With nearly 90 injection machines covering 575 thousand square feet of space and more than 400 employees, Port Erie Plastics is one of the regions largest and strongest molders.
And talk about a company that knows the importance of made in America.
Port Erie Plastics recently partnered with football Hall-of-famer Jim Kelly to manufacture and produce Kelly's 'My Fan Clip,' a clip to hold your money, or credit or business cards.

John Johnson, President - Port Erie Plastics, said: "It's a project we were successful in bringing back from China. Our engineers did a lot of work. We have a new digital printer that allows us to compete with China. It prints very quickly, and gives our customers better quality and durability they were receiving from China."

The clip includes your favorite team logo and is not just made for pro teams, or sports.
A separate room was built just for the My Fan Clip project.
Workers assemble and ship the product.

John, "Our automation engineers built some basic assembly techniques that allows us to be competitive with what they were doing in China."

Port Erie Plastics also manufactures 3 and a half million liner feet of excruded plex pipe, pipe that's replacing copper lines in homes.

John, "We sell exclusively to Zurn Industries, their our customer, they distribute to agencies that are out there."

A somewhat new endeavor is blow molding. The company contracts with Century Safe and makes the inside of the safe.

John, "We got some talented engineers. They gave it a try, we got a blow molding machine and 3 months later, we were generating good parts for them. It's been a win win."

And for the workers, made right here means the door is always open.

John Carr, tool maker, said: "I've been here for 27 years. It's like family. We're family oriented. There's an open door policy. I can see the president, vice president and the owner any time."
