BayHawks Extend Arena Lease, Unveil New Court Design
Erie, Pennsylvania, Monday, July 1 - The Erie BayHawks, along with the Erie County Convention Center Authority (ECCCA), today announced they have agreed to a three-year lease extension that will keep the NBA Development League franchise playing at Erie Insurance Arena through at least the 2015-16 season. The two parties also unveiled a completely refinished court the team will play on starting this season.
"The BayHawks have been a great partner and we're looking forward to many more years to come," said Casey Wells, ECCCA executive director. "The renovated Erie Insurance Arena is going to provide a great experience for fans to watch the BayHawks and the refinished court provides the team with a top-notch playing surface."
The lease includes terms similar to that which the two sides had the first five seasons.
The new court design includes two-tone wood stain, the BayHawks wordmark logo at center court, and the logo of the team's presenting partner, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), prominently displayed at half-court. Last summer, LECOM and the BayHawks agreed to a five-year partnership extension that carries through the 2017-18 season.
"We've had a successful first five seasons thanks to some of our great partners such as the Convention Center Authority and LECOM," said Steve Demetriou, BayHawks majority owner. "The new lease, refinished court and the arena renovations give our fans many reasons to be excited about the future of this franchise."
Monday's event occurred at JMC Ice Arena in Erie where the court refinishing took place while renovations at Erie Insurance Arena are ongoing.
