The SeaWolves bounced back on Tuesday night as they took down the Binghamton Mets 7-0 at Jerry Uht Park.
Erie jumped ahead in the first inning against Mets starter Michael Fulmer. With Jason Krizan on second and two outs, Dean Green laced an RBI double down the right field line for a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Steven Moya led off and connected on an opposite-field home run, his 32nd, for a 2-0 lead. Moya now trails Mike Rivera (2001 with 33) by one and Kurt Airoso (2004 with 34) by two for the all-time single season record. Corey Jones and Aaron Westlake followed with singles and with one out, Marcus Lemon walked to load the bases. Jamie Johnson drew a bases loaded walk, plating Jones for a 3-0 lead. Krizan then hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring Westlake for a 4-0 lead. Green singled home a pair and Moya followed with an RBI knock to extend the lead to 7-0.
Erie starter Wilsen Palacios (8-4) was stellar in earning the win. For the second time in three starts, Palacios tossed seven shutout innings, allowing six hits with a walk while equaling his career-high with nine strikeouts. His last nine strikeout performance was on May 15, 2013 while pitching with Lakeland against Tampa.
Relievers Chad Smith and Angel Nesbitt each tossed a scoreless inning, preserving the Erie shutout.
