The Gannon Volleyball team received the No. 7-seed in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight tournament, Dec. 7-9 in Pensacola, Fla. The eight remaining teams in the tournament were re-seeded after the regional finals. The complete bracket can be found here.
Gannon advanced to its fourth NCAA Division II Elite Eight in program history and first since 1993. The program played in three consecutive Elite Eights from 1991-93. Gannon snapped Wheeling Jesuit's 20-match win streak in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament with a 3-0 sweep on Saturday, Dec. 3. The Cardinals had won six consecutive NCAA Atlantic Regional championships. Their last loss in the NCAA Atlantic Regional came at the hands of Clarion in the 2010 regional semifinals.
Concordia-St. Paul received the top seed in the Elite Eight tournament. The Golden Bears are the defending NCAA Division II National Champions and have won eight of the last 10 championships. Regis (Colo.) was tabbed as the No. 2-seed. The Rangers stand at 31-3, winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament and the NCAA Division II South Central region tournament. Florida Southern was the No.3-seed, followed by Flagler (No. 4) and Rockhurst (No.5). Cal State San Bernardino was issued the No. 6-seed. The Lady Knights were selected as the No. 7-seed, standing at 31-6 record, winning the Atlantic region. New Haven rounded out the field with the eighth and final seed.
