Otters Snap Losing Skid, Shutout Rangers 4-0
Erie, PA – The Erie Otters snap their season long three game losing streak by shutting out the Kitchener Rangers Tuesday night at the Erie Insurance Arena.
The Otters continue on their home winning streak, which now stands at 19 games. Erie recorded their eighth shutout of the season, with both Devin Williams and Oscar Dansk picking up four shutouts each. Eight shutouts ties the Otters franchise record for most in a season set in the 2000-2001 season by J. F. Perras and Adam Munro.
The game started with a scoreless first period. After the intermission, the Otters offense rebounded to score three goals in the second. The most goals the Otters scored in a period since netting three in the third against the Niagara IceDogs back on December 12.
Jake Evans opened the scoring at 6:24 in the second period. Connor Brown added his 24th of the year at the 11:10 mark of the period. Dane Fox broke his three game scoring drought by adding an assist on the Brown marker and by adding a goal of his own at 17:02 of the second.
The Otters looked to hold onto the lead in the third as Devin Williams another seven shots on his way to a 22 save shutout. Patrick Murphy notched his second goal of the season at 12:06 of the third by poking a loose puck past Rangers net minder Jordan DeKort after a net front scramble.
The Erie Otters entertained a crowd of 4,766 on New Year’s Eve as they continued on their home ice tear. The Otters have a pair of games with the Owen Sound Attack up next, starting with Friday night’s contest at the Erie Insurance Arena.
