ERIE, Pa. - The Erie Otters completed their weekend sweep of the Owen Sound Attack tonight with a 4-3 win in regulation, handing them just their third regulation loss this season. Ivan Lodnia scored a goal in tonight’s win to extend his scoring streak to six games. Otters’ 1st round draft pick Emmett Sproule notched his first OHL point, picking up as assist on Carson Edwardson’s game-winning goal in the third period.
The first period tonight was much more defensively-minded than last night’s six-goal first period. Neither team committed a single infraction nor scored in the opening 20 minutes of play. Owen Sound brought out a more physical style of play to start the game, which initially garnered them a lead in SOGs, but the Otters gradually built their offense up and the first period ended with shots even at seven a piece.
The second period was more reminiscent of last night’s matchup, as Owen Headrick scored just 41 seconds in off a feed from Patrick Fellows to get the Otters on the scoreboard first. Three minutes later, Taylor Raddysh passed to a wide open Ivan Lodnia backdoor and he buried the puck to put the Otters up 2-0. Matthew Struthers got the Attack on the board with five minutes left in the second, but Taylor Raddysh got one back a few minutes later to regain the Otters’ two-goal lead. Kyle Maksimovich and Ryan Martin picked up the assists on Raddysh’s fourth goal of the season.
The Otters had some early trouble clearing the puck from their zone in the third period and Owen Sound scored just over three minutes in to make it 3-2. They found the back of the net again just minutes later but it was deemed no goal due to interference. Regardless, the surging Attack evened the score at 3 a piece after eight minutes of play in the third. Troy Timpano made some big saves while the Otters got back to their game after their early third period stumble. Carson Edwardson scored the game-winning goal 13 minutes into the third to put the Otters up 4-3. Rookie Emmett Sproule picked up the assist on Edwardson’s goal for his first OHL point. Erie was able to stave off the Attack for the remainder of the game to win their third home game in a row.
The Otters take on the Guelph Storm next Friday, Oct 27, at the Sleeman Centre at 7:30pm.
