SeaWolves Elminated from Playoff Contention

The SeaWolves lost their fourth straight game as they were downed by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 5-1 on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Binghamton jumped out to a lead in the last of the first inning against Erie starter Sandy Baez. Luis Guillorme led off with a walk and Kevin Kaczmarski followed with a two-run home run for a 2-0 lead. Peter Alonzo then blasted a solo home run to left, his first in Double-A, for a 3-0 Ponies advantage.

The Rumble Ponies added to the lead in the second. L.J. Mazzilli doubled with one out and scored on a Guillorme base hit to center with two outs making it 4-0.

Erie turned to A.J. Ladwig in the sixth making his first relief appearance of the year. Alonso led off the inning and belted his second home run of the game to make it 5-0.

The SeaWolves got on the board in the eighth against Ponies starter Mickey Jannis. With two outs, Gabriel Quintana and A.J. Simcox connected on back-to-back hits to put runners on the corners. Zack Cox singled home Quintana, cutting the lead to 5-1.

Jannis (8-7) earned the win for the Rumble Ponies allowing a run on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 7.2 innings.

P.J. Conlon earned his first save, tossing 1.1 scoreless in relief of Jannis.

Baez (0-1) took the loss in his Double-A debut allowing four runs on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts in five innings of work. He settled down allowing just one run over the final four innings he pitched.

The SeaWolves will look to avoid a sweep on Thursday night against the Rumble Ponies at 6:35 p.m. Righty Spencer Turnbull (0-2, 4.96 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Casey Delgado (10-6, 4.68 ERA).
