SeaWolves Named Top Promo Club in EL

ERIE, Pa - ERIE SEAWOLVES NAMED LARRY MACPHAIL AWARD FINALIST
TEAM RECOGNIZED AS TOP PROMOTIONAL CLUB IN THE EASTERN LEAGUE IN 2017
(Erie, PA) – The Erie SeaWolves, Double-A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, have been named the Eastern League’s top promotional club in 2017 and a finalist for Minor League Baseball’s Larry MacPhail Award.  One of Minor League Baseball’s top team honors, the Larry McPhail Award goes to the club that has demonstrated outstanding and creative marketing and promotional effort.

The Larry MacPhail Award will be presented by Minor League Baseball in December at the 2017 Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando, Florida.  The award has been presented since 1966 and is named after Hall of Fame executive Larry MacPhail, Sr., considered one of baseball’s great innovators.

“There are many strong teams and creative promoters in the Eastern League, so it is a tremendous honor to be a finalist for the Larry MacPhail Award,” SeaWolves Team President Greg Coleman said. “This nomination means the Minor League Baseball community recognizes the SeaWolves’ efforts to deliver fun and creativity at UPMC Park, online and throughout the greater Erie region. We appreciate the support of our fans and partners and the hard work and imagination of our dedicated staff for making this honor possible.”

From the Eastern League: “The Eastern League nominee for the Larry MacPhail Award, which is given to a club in Minor League Baseball that has demonstrated outstanding and creative marketing and promotional efforts, is the Erie SeaWolves. The excitement in Erie started long before the 2017 season began, as early in the offseason the franchise announced an agreement to rename their stadium as UPMC Park. As part of the agreement the SeaWolves expanded their promotional and community partnerships with the healthcare company, including a campaign that saw all newborns receive an Erie SeaWolves onesie and the expansion of C. Wolf’s Healthy Challenge, a nutrition and fitness program. The excitement carried over into the season as the SeaWolves welcomed an average of 3,350 fans per game to UPMC Park, an increase of 10-percent over their average attendance in 2016. The increase came thanks in part to the SeaWolves’ creative promotional schedule that featured events like Alternative Facts Night, a promotion that included fans receiving championship rings for a 2016 title that the team never won. The promotion was a hit and received national recognition. The Erie franchise also has a strong digital presence, which was proven when the organization created a successful campaign to win the Minor League Baseball BUSH’S® Home Run Recipes contest. Their “Mojo & AC Rocket Dog” topped entries from 64 other teams. The Erie SeaWolves are also heavily involved in their community, volunteering more than 400 hours to local causes and contributing over $250,000 in tickets, in-kind gifts and monetary donations in 2017.”
The SeaWolves open their 24th season on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies). The 2018 home opener at UPMC Park, presented by Plyler Entry Systems, is Friday, April 13 against the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates).
