AKRON, OH - The SeaWolves could not hold onto a pair of leads as they fell to the Akron RubberDucks 6-4 on Saturday night at Canal Park.
The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Akron starter Luis Lugo. Logan Watkins led off with a base hit to right and A.J. Simcox crushed a two-run home run for a 2-0 lead. The home run for Simcox was his eighth.
Akron tied the game in the second against Erie starter Matt Hall. With the bases loaded and one out, Luigi Rodriguez hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Yu Chang. A second run came in to score on a throwing error to make it a 2-2 game.
The RubberDucks took the lead in the fourth. Chang walked with one out and scored on a two-out Tyler Krieger double for a 3-2 lead.
Erie regained the lead in the eighth against reliever Jordan Milbrath. Zack Cox and Steven Moya started the inning with back-to-back singles. Harold Castro hit into a fielder’s choice and Moya was retired at second. Castro stole second to put two on ahead of Tim Remes. Remes singled home both baserunners, giving Erie a 4-3 lead.
The lead was short lived as Akron regained the lead against Joe Navilhon in the last of the eighth. Bobby Bradley single with one out and moved to third on a Chang double. Paulino followed with a three-run home run for a 6-4 Ducks lead.
Milbrath (3-2) earned the win for Akron allowing two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of work.
Navilhon (0-1) took the loss allowing three runs on four this with no walks and two strikeouts in one inning of work.
Lugo got the no-decision for Akron. He allowed two runs on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
