Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs activated reliever Kyuji Fujikawa from the 60-day disabled list prior to Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies.
Fujikawa, who has been sidelined for almost 14 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June of last year, will be available for the game.
The 34-year-old from Japan made his major league debut with the Cubs on Opening Day of last season, but spent nearly a month on the DL in April of 2013 with a right forearm strain. He returned, only to be forced off the mound again in late May before having the surgery.
In 12 games with Chicago in 2013, Fujikawa went 1-1 with two saves and a 5.25 earned run average.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs designated outfielder Nate Schierholtz for assignment.
Schierholtz was batting .192 with six home runs and 33 RBI in 99 games for the Cubs this season.
