Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair tendon damage in his right ankle and will be sidelined for the next 8-to-10 weeks.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren made the announcement prior to Game 6 of Philadelphia's Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the New York Rangers, who lead the best-of-seven set 3-2.
"Nicklas had successful surgery this morning to repair tendon damage in his right ankle suffered in Game 4 of this playoff series," Holmgren remarked Tuesday. "Nicklas will be out of action for 8-10 weeks."
Grossmann went into the boards awkwardly early in the second period of Game 4 and did not return. He averaged 19:10 of ice-time and recorded six blocked shots over Philadelphia's first three playoff games.
The 29-year-old blueliner registered one goal and 13 assists over 78 regular- season contests in 2013-14.
