Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Orlando Magic acquired the rights to Louisiana-Lafayette guard Elfrid Payton in a draft-day trade Thursday night with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Sixers picked Payton at No. 10 and dealt him to Orlando for the 12th pick this year, a second-round pick in 2015 and a future first-round selection originally acquired by the Magic from Philadelphia as part of the four-team deal that landed Dwight Howard with the Lakers in 2012.
Philadelphia ended up with Dario Saric of Croatia at No. 12, though he will spend the next two years overseas.
Payton, 20, was a late climber on a lot of draft boards in the past several weeks. He averaged 19.2 points as a junior for the Ragin' Cajuns.
