San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Marlins removed struggling reliever Carlos Marmol from the 40-man roster Sunday following a third poor showing in his last four appearances.

Marmol took the loss in the Marlins' 9-3 setback at San Diego on Saturday. The veteran reliever entered the contest in the sixth inning with the contest tied at 2-2, but was rocked for four runs on four hits while recording just three outs.

The effort raised Marmol's season ERA to 8.10 while dropping him to 0-3 on the season. Over his four most recent outings, the onetime Cubs closer has permitted eight runs on nine hits while walking four in a span of 3 1/3 innings.

Reliever Henry Rodriguez had his contract purchased from Triple-A New Orleans to take Marmol's place. The right-hander had a 3.26 ERA and one save in 12 games with the Zephyrs, though he issued 23 walks in 19 1/3 innings.

Rodriguez has had previous major league stops with Oakland, Washington and the Cubs and owns a 5-7 record with a 4.24 ERA and 11 saves in 148 career appearances.
