Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Nationals decided to place Adam LaRoche on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to a right quadriceps strain the first baseman had been battling through for more than two weeks.
LaRoche was held out of Saturday's 4-3 loss at Oakland after serving as the designated hitter for Friday's opener of the series.
The 11-year veteran had been putting together a strong performance at the plate in spite of the lingering injury, leading the Nationals with a .319 average and five homers while driving in 21 runs over 32 games.
LaRoche joins two other key regulars, third baseman Ryan Zimmerman and left fielder Bryce Harper, on the DL.
Outfielder/first baseman Tyler Moore was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to take the available roster spot.
Moore saw action in 18 games with the Nationals earlier in the season, going 6-for-30 with a pair of homers and three RBI.
