San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres could be without starting second baseman Jedd Gyorko for their three-game series with the San Francisco Giants due to the impending birth of his first children.
The Padres placed Gyorko on the paternity leave list prior to Monday's opener of the set. The 25-year-old's wife, Karley, is expecting twins.
Gyorko has gotten off to a slow start to the season, hitting just .144 (13- of-90) with one home run and nine RBI through 26 games. He led all MLB rookies with 23 homers in 2013.
Outfielder Tommy Medica was recalled from Triple-A El Paso to take Gyorko's place on the active roster.
Medica went just 4-for-28 with the Padres prior to being sent to the minors last Friday.
