A big third inning on Wednesday morning helped propel the SeaWolves past the Akron RubberDucks 10-3, snapping a three-game losing skid.
The SeaWolves struck for a pair in the bottom of the first inning against Akron starter Cody Anderson. Jamie Johnson led off with a double and was doubled home by Corey Jones for a 1-0 lead. Jones advanced to third on a Jason Krizan groundout and scored on a Dean Green single for a 2-0 lead.
Akron struck for a run in the second against Erie starter Wilsen Palacios. Bryan LaHair led off with a single and was doubled over to third by Joe Wendle. LaHair scored on an error making it a 2-1 game in favor of Erie.
The ‘Wolves opened up the game in the last of the third. Johnson led off and reached on an error. With one out, Jason Krizan snapped a seven-game hitless streak with a base hit pushing Johnson over to third. Aaron Westlake singled home Johnson making it 3-1. Green walked to load the bases for Steven Moya.
Moya promptly unloaded the bags with a grand slam to right making it 7-1. It was Moya’s four home run and second in as many games. Francisco Martinez followed with a single and was doubled home by Brandon Loy making it 8-1. Craig Albernaz extended his hitting streak to five straight knocking in Loy and Jones doubled home Albernaz making it 10-1.
In the sixth, Joe Wendle led off with a double and scored on a two-out error making it 10-2.
Akron added a run in the seventh against reliever Kenny Faulk. Tyler Naquin led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Naquin scored on a Francisco Lindor knock making it 10-3. Akron would get no closer.
Palacios (2-1) allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks and a season-high six strikeouts in equaling a season-high with six innings pitched.
